A world where magic is an energy that can be used as a tool for good or evil by those who know how manipulate it. It is a pre-industrial age, equivalent to late Medieval or Renaissance Europe. A place where extraordinary characters study to be rangers, paladins, wizards, driun, bards, and clerics. In the most current times, humans dominate, but other races of beings are tolerated. Races such as elfin, dwarfin, gnomin, and eshkin all vie for a place to thrive.

The Protectorate of Wynchell

Wynchell means “Drawer of water”

This Protectorate is in the northeast corner of Lageheim and borders the VenKeth. Threshold Ridge is on its eastern boundary. A remote region, the sources of the Gaderon and Kwit Rivers start in the Towering Peaks and run through Wynchell before coming together at at the capital city of White Cliff. The two rivers form a triangular region known locally as “between the rivers.” The people of Wynchell have harvested the trees here for lumber for generations and call the manmade forest Wood Harvest. The dwarfin halls of Sarengeld are here.

Wynchell is known for their ferry, top quality lumber, gold, and iron.  The ruling duke’s colors are a gold V on a green field.

VenKeth – the Venerable Woods

Ranger's Calling Fantasy Map Venerable Woods

The Venerable Woods, known as the VenKeth in the ancient Tyrian language, stretch for hundreds of miles east of Lageheim. The northern boundary is stopped by the Towering Peaks. The southern region touches near the Cat Paw Lakes and overrun by the swampy Ven Marshes. The great forest separates the west (Lageheim, Thalassa, Volberg) from the eastern kingdoms, both the near east and the far east, with the Threshold Ridge marking the western boundary of the woods. Only one dark, narrow, and overgrown Forest Road traverses the woods, and few dare its tracks as th ejourney form one end to the other is almost a month.

“It is a minimmum of 25 days from this inn to the gate on the other side. The first few and the last fiew are not too bad, but the rest of th eitme is pure fear.” – Captain Caelan

This mystical forest is the home of many fantastical creatures including goblins, the wolf-like vargin, undead, and various fae.

Gorefang the Old is a great dragon who roams the forest to the north and claims much of that territory. Marilith the Hag with her ghouls, will-of-wisps, and other swamp creatures contirl the Ven Marshes. Nasir the Death Knight lives in the ruins of his castle near the eastern edge of the forest and all pray he does not take an interest in your party.

The Northwest corner is known as the Fae Lands. This wondrous and magical region is the of the Fae, such as faeries, fauns, centaurs, Noldin (angelic wolf-like creatures), dryads and many more. Some say hidden portals exist about the land, sweeping those unaware to places unknown.

In the north of the Fae Lands, under the rugged spires of the Towering Peaks and by the mystical waters is the elfin kingdom of HaeranVale, ruled by the wizard King Faeranduil.

The Hidden Valley and the Qoholet Abbey

Ranger's Calling Fantasy Map Hidden Valley

The Hidden Valley rest secretly between the mighty kingdom of Lageheim and the mystical VenKeth west of the Threshold Ridge. Here men of valor established a abbey to teach selected youth to be the Qoholet or “Gathers of Wisdom”. A society of Ranger Sages who guard the human kingdoms from the monsters of the VenKeth and guard the forest residents from the curiosity of adventurous men.

The Qoholet Abbey is supported by three villages that grow, craft and harvest the needs of the abbey. StoneCrest is next to the abbey, Lakeside is near the center of the valley by Hidden Lake, and Woodhaven rests on the northern flanks of the forested valley.
